Title: Hello from Lexington, KY
Post by: Joe Moore on July 18, 2014, 05:34:56 PM
Hey guys. I have been cruising the site for a few weeks now and figured I would finally join. I am a somewhat new bee keeper and have chosen the top bar route (I have 1 stack though). I have 6 hives, all filled with free bees. 3 from TB swarm traps I built, 2 caught swarms, and 1 cutout (thanks for the videos JP, gave me the know how to perform cutouts). I am a Civil Engineer by day and a member of the Bluegrass Beekeepers association. Look forward to being an active member of the site.

I thought about getting into topbar hives but some of my friends who are beekeepers kept suggesting that I not use them to start out. I would love to hear more about your experiences with them. Also, are you a member of the Fayette County Beekeepers Association? If so, are you going to the next meeting?(it's in Scott County this month due to renovations). If so, I'll look for you there.

Yes I am a member and yes I will be at the next meeting on Monday. I always like a good chat and love sharing my experiences in TBH's. I know you are not suppose to advertise on this forum (not trying to) but I do build hives and components or can give you plans of my hives. I am not a proponent or opponent of the TBH (I just started a langst. from a cut out) but I do get lots of enjoyment out of them.
