I think I read about a woman in Utah killed this year. Her bees, I think.
Yes, a beekeeper did die from bee stings. In her situation she had a bad reaction from a few dozen stings. ETA: My mention of dropping a frame or box of bees was just to give an example of how many stings she got. I think the reports said around 40 stings. I don't know what actually was the cause of the stings. But another sad affair, non-the-less.
