Title: SHB control for solid bottoms
Post by: biggraham610 on August 17, 2014, 08:42:37 PM
Saw a few hive beetles in the hives today. Smashed what I could. Stores are light was trying to figure if I was going to  need to feed. Outside frame on a couple hives had a few. there was capped honey on those frames and the beetles 6-12 per hive were in empty comb a few cells away. What should I be looking for and whats the best combat? Thanks. G :chop:

strong hives are the best defense.  a dozen per hive this time of year isn't too bad from what i've seen.  i've only been keeping bees "post hive beetle" for about 3 years, though.

This is the first time I have had to deal with them. I guess I will get some traps that go between the frames. Better safe than sorry I guess. I dont like to see any enemy in the hive. The Hives are loaded with bees. I guess it would be alot more of them if not. Thanks 10 F. G :chop:
