Title: I hived the nucs
Post by: rookie2531 on August 24, 2014, 06:11:45 PM
I could not resist. I put both my nucs in full ten frame hives. I split them back July 10 and both have good/great queens. They have been drinking the 1/1 hbh, like fish. I had another five frame deep on top and a medium on top. The nic was a d.Coates design with a 1.5 inch entrance which they seemed to out grow. Now they are a deep box with a medium box. They are a little open brood with a little checkered on the mediums, meaning most deeps are finished and maybe half or less mediums are drew. I did notice not much pollen put away but plenty syrup/honey. So I made some substitute and plan on giving them some later this evening.

They did seem a little confused after there nucs were replaced with fulls. But they seemed to figure it out. I figure/hope they still have time to draw/fill before cold weather sets in.

I guess, I will find out late fall if I did the right thing.
