Title: Top Entrance Hive Question ...
Post by: Alpal on August 31, 2014, 03:50:47 AM
Hi

I am contemplating setting up a top entrance medium box size hive. Just not too sure about what you use at the bottom of the hive. Is it solid timber and, if so, I presume there would be little ventilation through the hive.

Is this correct?

Cheers

G'day,
I kinda struggled with the same question. My solution was to try using a reduced bottom entrance, 3/8" X 3", and a full width 3/8" top. I made my top entrance by shimming my inner cover and the bottom entrance by using a reducer. Simple. Seems to be working out. I didn't have to change my equipment, just modify what I already had.
