Title: What are my Bee's collecting?
Post by: labradorfarms on September 14, 2014, 10:47:51 PM
Ok the fall flow is light here because of the dry weather we have had... We got a small rain so hopefully it will increase..
My question is what are my Bee's foraging on? My hives smell like a Warm Beer.....  Not rotten just musky with a slight hint of sweetness...

Is that Goldenrod?

Never heard it described as warm beer. Usually described as old smelly socks while they are drying it. More than likely it is Goldenrod at this time of year.

That could be it....   .. The smell is hard to describe...
I never thought of dirty socks. A hot Beer is the first thing that poped into my head...

My bees pollen is white or orange.  I guess the orange is goldenrod.  No idea about the white.
They are bringing in equal amounts of each.
