When do the females normaly start ousting the Drones??? Do they oust all of them or let a few remain?

Late Sept, October.  However I've had large hives with some 'snow drones' in them all winter; and no they were not queenless.
But in general the boys of summer are about to come to an end.

When I open up the hives this time of year and find a half a dozen or so drones all tucked into one spot hiding, I kinda feel sorry for the guys.

It depends on when the weather gets cold and when the nectar gives out.  And different hives make different decisions.
