My girls are still drawing, but seems like the queens are done laying in my top supers. They have only one box of mediums on top of there one deep and I put a second medium on one of them about a month ago. They have drawn that out so I think I will put another box on top the other hives and see what they do until frost. It cant hurt for them to draw another box and fill it could it? That would give all 3 hives a deep brood and 2 mediums.
Im thinking, even if they don't draw them all and cap it. I could take those empties out and put all the stores in the center and put foam boards to the outsides. And have the stores even in both medium boxes with insulating both outsides.
I have read about some people putting foam boards inside the hive like this, good, bad?
Alright, I put ten more medium frames on one of the hives. I think they are in some kind of twilight zone. We have goldenrod all over and they seem real busy coming in with pollen and nectar, but I am also feeding 2:1 and they acted crazy. Like they were starving, even had a black wasp land on my wrist. They have lots of stores, but you wouldn't know it by the way they acted.
I cleaned up some bur comb and fed them. I also turned there summer vent boxes into winter quilt boxes and put them on too. We'll see what they draw in the next 3 weeks.
I candy boards on my hives mid December for emergency feed during the winter.
The long range forecast I got was a blustery and wet winter.
Below normal temperatures.
That went from this region of Central Arkansas right up into New York.
Capt. I been hearing the same from everyone. Another cold one.
