Hello folks... I came upon this forum last weekend when I was searching for some information about bee swarms. I was watering in my garden , standing next to our lemon tree, when I noticed a few more bees than normal floating around and then discovered I was 2 feet away from a swarm resting on a branch. My 1st instinct was fear so I went inside and got on the net to see how I could get rid of them but the more I studied, the more I started to become fascinated with these lovely creatures and it took all of my fear away. I went outside and stood near the swarm again and just studied them. I was mortified the next day when I discovered that they had flown off to their newly scouted home :).
I reside in a small country town and am now searching for some local beekeepers so I can ask to spend some time with them and learn how to keep bees. I have some bees with a hive in a wall of a small lined shed outside so I am going to see now how I can shift them to a better home...hopefully in my own hives once I get a start...and of course, if I am allowed to do it in the reasonably sized back yard that we have. Off to the local council chambers next :) It's nice to be here among knowledgeable people :)
Welcome to the forum markmack. Lots of great information here and the people aren't so bad either. There is a section specific to Australia. Check it out. As I have learned here, beekeeping is region specific. Good luck to you.
Cheers Laurie :)
Welcome to the forum, Mark!
Welcome
Welcome guys to the forum and good luck with the new Bees, when you get them...Gary
Mark,
Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you are hooked. Be careful this is a very addictive hobby.
That swarm probably came out of that building. They normally stop and rest near the parent hive due to the queen is flying for the first time in a long time when they leave the hive.

Thanks for that information Jim :)... I had been wondering about that and it seemed logical that, that indeed would be the case.. fascinating stuff :)
