I recently made sugar bricks , but I put them in the oven to make them stick together a bit better....
I ran the oven from 0 to 350 about 10 min in a foil lined pan... Took out my sugar water HBH mix in 10 min....
I didn't burn or scorch it. I tasted to make sure.....
Can I feed this to me bees without harming them????
Someone told me it would kill Bees after the fact!
I saw no difference in that method that making sugar syurp with boiling water...
Please let me know before I put this on my hives!!!
There should be no problems. Dissolving the sugar in hot water is ok, caramelizing (as in creme brule' is not) -Mike
Sugar will change its structure once it gets heated. Some say it's bad for the bees some say it easier for the bees to digest. I'm not sure who to believe now :? :? :?
350 or 212 is there a difference?
being in the oven for ten minutes at 350* does not meant the sugar is heated to 350*. as long as the sugar does not caramelize you're ok. i need to find a timer that sounds like a fog horn. I've forgotten & overheated my last 2 batches of syrup. no matter how careful i tried to be i ended up with tiny little black specs all over the stove so I'm using a hot plate outside & the wife is a lot happier.
I use a food dehydrator set at 130°. Works great.
Or 170 in the oven so Im told. Im trying that approach later tonight. G :chop:
170 in oven for how long?
