I am a new urban beekeeper in Dallas Texas. I started two ten-frame hives in April 2014 from two nucs. Both hives built out 2 deeps each and partially filled out 1 medium honey super each with comb. I have a bad back and wished that I had started with 8 frame mediums. I plan to migrate to the smaller size in 2015.

Welcome to beemaster. Sounds like a good plan. 8 frames weigh about 1/3 the weight of a 10 frame deep.
