Title: Hows your Honey this year SE Melbourne'rs
Post by: timmc on January 30, 2015, 08:45:50 PM
Hi
New poster here.
Im just wondering how SE Melbourne is going for you? This year is my best year by a mile.
I have been keeping 2  hives for the past 5 years and averaging 30 kgs every year. This year Ive pulled out 60 kgs so far with lots of fully capped frames still in the hive's. Might crack 100 if im lucky

Interested to see if other people are seeing the same

Im near Devon Meadows

Thanks
Tim

Been my best year as well in Melbourne.
I think Yellow box flowering has helped.

I've pulled 40 kilo from each from my 4 hives ( 2 of which started as swarms).

No sign of stopping yet.
I think the yellow box is slowing but perhaps grey box is starting.

cheers

Damien

Up in SE Qld we have had a good year generally but after our heavy rain and minor flooding with cyclone Marcia I am told it takes six months for the water to penetrate to the sub-soil then up the trees to the flowers so next spring will be a bumper year for honey so be prepared was the advice. Just extracted 26Kg from 10 frames off one hive so can't complain.
