Hi. My name is Scott. I have long been interested in beekeeping and have been reading about it.
I know there are huge benefits from raw honey...and huge benefits from just having bees around.
I live on 2 acres, not in an incorporated area, and want to begin keeping bees. I need to find out all I can on where to start and what I need to be doing now.
Any help I can get is welcome and appreciated.
My wife and I have 4 children still at home, and we are looking forward to getting into beekeeping. I look forward to meeting others here.
Thank you.
Welcome Scott.
My apiary is in Lawrenceburg near the Ohio river.
You can find out a lot on this site and your local bee club. Now is the time to order. So the best advise I can give you is to join a bee club, watch some fatbeeman youtube videos and read bee keeping for dummies.
Enjoy your bees.
Joe
Welcome!
First timer here, too! I'll be starting four colonies this spring. Lot's of good reading in here.
1) find your local beek association
2) get a line on your bees
a)package or nuc
b)type of bee
3) decide what style hive you'll put them in
4) read read read
5) go for it!
Welcome
Hi Scott,
As Maggiesdad said - find a local club. Clubs often offer beginner's classes, and are great places to find mentors and get connected to local beekeepers. Here's a list:

The Indiana State Beekeeper's offer a full-day beginner's class in conjunction with their spring meeting, which will be March 21 in Marion. More info here (click on beekeeping school link):
