Title: Drawing with no flow?
Post by: rookie2531 on April 01, 2015, 07:26:47 PM
I went in looking for my queens today (no luck there). But found they are drawing a little new comb. They drew some off the innercover and some on a foundation less medium that wasn't drawed out complete last fall.

I thought they had to be on a flow to draw? They do have plenty stores, as I fed all summer last year and still have sugar on top, But I have Not gave them any syrup this year.

    IMHO more information is needed.

Are you feeding right now ? If so how are the boxes set up with frames ?? with comb ?? with sugar on top in and empty box ???

This time of year 1-1 sugar syrup will stimulate the wax glands on younger bees as well as old ones.

There needs to be something they need to store and no where to store it for them to draw comb.  If by "flow" you mean some nectar or syrup coming in, yes.  If by "flow" you mean the main flow, not necessarily.

Well, I guess there is some nectar out there somewhere then, because I have NOT fed them any liquid or pollen sub, yet. Just put sugar bricks on for security.

Thanks

IMHO
sugar bricks will stimulate bees to raise brood and make wax..

Well they do have a lot of brood, even a few swarm cells drawed.

Don't underestimate the little buggers! I see them bringing in pollen at times that I swear that there could be nothing for them. They usually know what to do and when to do it.
