Title: Package Bees
Post by: vemergy on April 02, 2015, 11:48:34 AM
I am itching for buying a new bee package -- anybody has a recommendation with a vendor that ships in USA?
I was thinking of Olivarez, any thoughts?

Regards,
George

I think you will have to settle for whoever still has packages and will ship...  Olivarez is no worse than the rest.  Quality has gone downhill on all of them in recent years...

a phone call to  Olivarez at least for a queen  revealed to me they had none available this year any longer . Maybe they still have packages as that could have been where the queens where already committed ?

Being in Central Ohio there's several people with packages still available I'd have to guess.   Waldo Ohio Apiary in Waldo, Simpson's Bee Supply in Danville, Conrad's Hive and Honey in Canal Winchester just to name a few.

Good luck on your quest. In the Northeast most all packages are sold out by the end of February

I would agree that something is going on in the package bee market. I think they are breeding inferior queens. Quantity verses quality ??

Those are good Ohio sellers.  The Old Drone probably has packages available and delivers all over south west Ohio.
Good luck with your bees.

Is not Walter T Kelley for pickup only?? It would be a little ride from Western New York or Ohio.

your best at this point would probably be a local nuc.

If you belong to a local bee club, tell them you are looking for bees. They might have local nucs or will help you catch a swarm.  -Mike

   Good to know

All bee packages are shipped through US Priority Mail and are insured in zones 1-4. Zone 5 shipments are uninsured and shipped at customer's own risk.
