Title: Bees upset with condensing unit
Post by: vmmartin on April 26, 2015, 10:50:35 AM
Anyone ever have your bees angry off at your A/C unit.  I was adding a few boxes and general hive inspections yesterday all while in shorts and t-shirt.  The bees were very content.  When I finished, I went to sit in the shade in the back yard. I could hear what sounded like big raindrops hitting the fan on the unit and looked over there to see about 20-40 bees bombarding the unit and bouncing off of the fan. They only bounced off of it once, of course.  As I approached to see a little closer, I was stung straightaway so I backed up.  I am thinking one or two, splatted on the fan and then the scent escalated things.  However, the fan is blowing some serious CFM's upward.  So, they had to really dive bomb it to get in there and get hit by it.  Anyone ever see something like that before?

Do you have any water source for the bees? I would put a pan of some sort under the unit to catch the drip. d2
