Title: Flows in April in central Pa?
Post by: buzzbee on April 02, 2006, 11:53:17 AM
I have lived here all my life but have not really paid attention. What major blooms should be coming on? I see buds on cleveland pears and flowering plum in my yard but don't know if these trees are useful to bees or not. Thanks for any info to a newbie beekeeper. I get my bees on the 22nd.Thanks  :?:

The wild plums are the first big bloom around  here.  The bees will be all over them.  Pears aren't as attractive but they will work them if there's nothing better.

Buzzbee, be on the look out for Dandy Lion and then Clover as the top flows coming up.  I live in Danville, not far from you.  Dale, another member is also from PA (N. Eastern).  I'm not too sure what trees are big for the bees, apple blossoms are going to be up there.  Also, later in the year, if you are near a farming area, alfalfa, soy beans, pumpkins, and sunflowers will be full force.  You can be certain that in a couple weeks, everything is going to be going full speed ahead.  Let's hope for a little bit of rain too.  It's a little dry out right now.
