They tell me once a new hive has 70-80% of the comb drawn add another. I take that to mean the same on an existing hive, once the 70-80% are filled with brood pollen and nectar, I add a box. G

Yeah that.

Rule of thimb to be taken with a grain of salt...
6 or 7 frames filled/drawn, time to add another box...  If you are adding DRAWN comb, add two boxes at a time.. when they have 3/4 of those capped add two more boxes of drawn  comb..  if you have only undrawn foundation, add it one box at a time.

I Have found it helpful to "bait them up" with a brood frame or at least one drawn comb. The necessity for me might be because I use foundationless frames. I also try to make sure that whatever frame I put up is as straight as possible, so that what they start is straight as well. Wish I had 2 boxes of drawn comb to put on!
