Title: Wiring a Honey Super Wax Foundation
Post by: flyboy on June 22, 2015, 01:06:13 AM
I am trying to decide whether to use wire to secure the wax foundation in my honey supers. Previously I did, but I am now thinking that it might be a waste of time.

Any thoughts?

If you are using wired foundation, I don't see the need to further secure it as the bees will attach their drawn comb to most of the frame. I don't use foundation, so I string monifilament side to side through the holes in the frame sides to give some extra support (the bees builds around it). But I've enev spun honey from super frames without even that, with no problem.

I spin foundationless medium frames with no problem.

I have hardly ever wired foundation in the supers, nor foundationless in the supers.  I typically extract them.  The only issue is getting them drawn before the foundation sags, so I don't put the foundation in until there is a flow and the bees are ready for it.
