Put some damaged frames in the hive some time back and when I robbed the hive the frames were repaired with drone comb as they do BUT not filled - whole frame was filled and fully capped but for the repaired bits which were totally empty same on several frames - WHY?
More than likely those drone cells had drones larvae in them during your flow. When the flow stopped they stopped making drones. Then there was not enough nectar coming in to fill them in.
If I'm correct then this area will be brown. If they never put drone larvae in it it will be very white wax.
Dependingwhere on the frame these cells are they normally move honey around and back fill them. If they are around theedges they probably will not.
Jim
Mostly in the middle and white
That is strange, usually they back fill that area from the side areas so that as the brood area runs out of food, they move up in the center and use the stored honey in the super.
How far is this area above the brood?
Jim
They were scattered through out the two honey supers above the excluder. I just see what happens when they get recycled back into the hive.
