Title: Do bees rotate stock?
Post by: GSF on August 02, 2015, 07:03:31 PM
When folks, or grocery stores, get more product in, the new is placed in the back of the shelf so the old will be used first. I was curious if bees do something similar. What made me think of this is every year I wonder if I'm eating sugar water honey or nectar honey.

My guess is that as the bees eat their stores during a flow, the empty cells are filled with nectar behind them. Or something to that sort.

That's what happens. If they didn't they would have so much empty comb there would be no room for the bees. But I have found hives so large that their was comb that hadhoney that looked like it had not need touched by the bees for over a year.  Bees are constantly making new comb and if room is available to them  will have comb with honey in areas far away from the hive mass.
