Title: First Bee Sighting!
Post by: ctsoth on April 08, 2006, 05:11:59 PM
I live in central minnesota and my bees have not arrived yet...  However, it seems as though scout bee decided to scout my head and my car while I was working on it today.....

It would be a little odd for a bee to "headbutt" like that as in actually notice you unless you're within 30 feet of a colony or have a honey-like odor.

Haven't you had bees check you out at random? They always seem to buzz around the head. My daughter use to work at a Sonic drive-in about five miles from me. She would ask if I thought my bees would travel that far to bother her at her job.

To be honest, the only time they ever seem to notice me is when I open the hive.  I'll walk around it, mow the lawn, rake near it and even stick a camera in the enterence and they don't really notice me.

It could be my overactive imagination
but I would swear that bees are attracted to
the certain shades of the yellow reflectors
used as turn signals on cars and trucks.
Maybe from up in the air, the lenses resemble blooms :?:  :?:  :?:  :?:

Actually, some pest controllers that treated our house for cockroaches, complained about when they had to remove ferral hives.  They said that it seemed that bees and wasps were all attracted to their "yellow jackets".

They are attracted to the empty cups/cans of soda pop strawn around though. Spill some soda on youself and go around your hives, you'll see.
