According to Von Frisch's research they know the position of the sun on the other side of the earth at night...

Wow!  According to this article, they can calculate geometry in their heads!  Better than I can do.
Either that, or they have an instinctive mechanism to know where the sun is.

Is there a difference? It is still a brain function.

Touch a hot smoker.  Resonse is instinctive brain function.
Calulate Pi to 10th decimal place.  Logical brain function.
