Title: Skunks
Post by: beehappy1950 on August 29, 2015, 01:31:47 AM
I caught a skunk tonight in my live trap in front of my beehive, and he stinks.  Will the smell affect the honey?  I am in the process of pulling supers.
Signed, Desperate

Did he spray the hive? If so maybe... If not then you should be OK... Was the honey capped? If so then I think you are probably good but you might want to leave the cappings for the bees.

Well, this morning went better than I could ever dream of. The skunk was dead. I think he was dead a few hours after he got caught. The trap was sitting right up against the front of the hive, so he must have died of bee stings. Cant figure any other way. All is well. Thanks Harold

I agree with Eric, the honey should be good to extract and eat.  -Mike
