Title: What to do with the dead bees.
Post by: Eugene Willson on September 01, 2015, 08:12:30 PM
Around any hive there are always dead bees due to normal lifespan, I pick them up and feed my fish in my pond. They love them and are fun to watch.  I also get the benefit of larger fish.
Have a great day!

I put them in the bird feeder, and the birds take them

The chickens have discovered them as they wander around the hives.

yellow jackets get a lot of them, my dog some, and birds the rest, when my dog isn't chasing the birds away.

I've never had much need to collect dead bees, unless it's a pesticide kill. But, that was a one-time deal so far.

As an anecdote, I've been feeding my drone cull frames to the fish pond for a full season now. It means straining out the wax periodically, but I can definitely tell you that goldfish and fathead minnows love drone pupae.
