Title: queen
Post by: chickenwing654 on September 30, 2015, 07:22:07 AM
HI,
I know it is late, but does anyone have a suggestion on finding a queen supplier now.  I've tried my local suppliers, and have tried online.  Everyone is sold out for the year.

I don't have any eggs on a frame to add.  Any suggestions?  How would they fair without a queen at this stage?

Thanks

David

Odds are they have either shutdown brood rearing for the year and they have a "laying" queen who isn't laying, or they superseded the queen and the new one isn't laying yet.  Odds are that you're not queenless.  I'd be tempted to feed a bit of warm light syrup and see if you can get them to start rearing another batch of brood.  This will help you ascertain if they are indeed queenless.  It may not prove that you are, but if they start rearing brood it will prove you aren't.

"call 706-677-3502
we got queens"

This was a email I got back from DONALD KUCHENMEISTER, aka the fat bee man on Aug 11th. I couldn't tell you if he still has any.

Like Michael suggested, make sure they are in fact queen less or you'll be wasting your money.

Still queens available here in Florida. This place is up in Pt St Lucie "Florida Queen Bees" 772-489-4125 http://beesflorida.com/wp/queen-bees/ . Not sure how introducing a FL bred queen to a New England winter will go this late in the year though.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies.  Pretty sure they are queenless.  I think I found another local supplier for queens.  I will give them a try today.

Thanks
