I'd like your feedback on winter feeding. I currently have one hive (that will be another conversation). I will be feeding it some of the honey that I've extracted from it. Is there any additional benefits for feeding supplements?
Your profile does not say where you are so I will give general information.
If the temperatures are above 50 F, you can feed 2:1 syrup (2 parts sugar to 1 part water - 1 gallon of water is about 8.345404 lbs.)
Below 50 I will put on some fondant that I buy at the store (you can make it yourself but when you need a lot you will burn up your electric mixer).
Below ~40 powered sugar on a small plate. Hope this helps you. -Mike
Thank you for the reply Mike.
I am on the Alabama gulf coast near Mobile. I've not figured out how to add my location to my profile.

Click on your name (next to Welcome) and look for "Modify Profile". Hope that helps!
BTW, here is a link to a recipe for fondant. http://www.bamboohollow.com/fondant-recipe.php I put that on the top of the frames with a shim and they were all over it! I also did as suggested and mixed some pollen into the mixture as well as pollen substitute. That easily took them through till it was time for pollen patties.
Good deal, thanks. BTW I was able to update my profile.
Welcome Trents!
