Title: New in West Texas...
Post by: Jeffe on November 23, 2015, 05:59:21 PM
Hello, I'm Jeff. I moved back to West Texas last year from Northern California. We keep a 2 acre market garden and I decided I needed some bee hives. We keep about 200 chickens, a few goats, 2 mini donkeys and a couple of Red Wattle hogs. I want bees to increase my pollination and make some honey for our baking needs. I've always wanted to start keeping bees just never took the time to do it. I'm going to build some Langstroth hives this winter and should be getting my bees the middle of April. My goal is to have 5 hives going by the end of my growing season 2016. I might try a few top bar hives also. We don't have internet at home, we come into town and use the wifi at the public library. So if you don't here from me I'm out on the farm. Thanks for all the information that is up in the forums, I've been reading some the last few days...    Jeff.

Welcome to Beemaster!

Your desired setup sounds a lot like what I did this year... I started this spring with two packages in Top Bars and two nucs in Langs. I've got eight colonies rolling into winter here in central VA. Good luck to you and keep on reading there's much to learn.
Lot's of good folks on here to help you out, too.

Welcome Jeffe.  You might want to put your approximate location in your profile.  West Texas is mighty big, but for those not in the know, West, TX, is a small town in Central Texas.  You could be in No Trees, Earth or Muleshoe and still be in West Texas.

Jeffe, answers to most questions about beekeeping will depend on your location, so tou need to modify your profile.  Click on profile at the top of the page, then click on modify profile, then click on Forum profile, then enter your approsimate location (city or county or closest big town and the state will do).  People using Tap a Talk seem to be unable to do this, in which case that have to ask an administrator to enter it for them, but I don't see that you're using that.
