Title: 2 swarm calls in 2 days
Post by: KeyLargoBees on December 18, 2015, 07:32:32 PM
Got the swarm yesterday but no apparent queen.... Pulled up to the location this morning after the call and watched the swarm leave... Didn't catch them but was an awesome sight ...today was within a mile of yesterday's s arm so may have been a secondary from the same hive... In any event it seems early for swarms in the Keys  but will catch em as the calls come in 😀

..and so it begins :) We'll be watching the swarm calls move up in a northerly direction.

Swarms are always a lot of fun.

My dad just did a bike ride from Miami to Key largo and sent me some honey. It's not local to key largo, but he got it there. It says it is citrus honey with lime essence added to it. Is that common? It really does not taste good. It smells and taste like the pithy part of citrus.

Fox it sounds like you got a "tourist special". They put Key Lime in everything and try and sell it to the tourists....sometimes it works...sometimes not so much ;-P

QuoteChanges in Latitudes...Changes in Attitudes....are Florida Keys bees more laid back than the rest of the country...only time will tell!!!

Only been there once but I doubt that bees anywhere are laid back.  They work from sun up to sun down and most likely half way through the night.  Laid back might not work for catching swarms even in the Keys.
