Title: Walt Wright Passes
Post by: sc-bee on February 07, 2016, 09:21:31 PM
It is with deepest sadness that we must announce the passing of beekeeper and writer Walter W. Wright. As many of you may know, he fell and broke his hip Saturday evening, January 30. After a successful hip replacement he was transferred to a rehabilitation facility nearby. He seemed to be recovering, but around 2AM on Saturday, February 6, his heart stopped. Despite heroic efforts by EMT and emergency room personnel, he did not recover. Walt left specific, written instructions that there be no flowers and no donations in his name. He also requested that there be no ceremony. The family will hold visitation from 11 AM to 1 PM on Monday, February 8, at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home, 27186 E. Main St., Ardmore, Alabama, Phone: (256) 423-4100. Ardmore Chapel is just East of Ardmore at the corner of Alabama Hwy 53 and Carson
Internment will follow at 2 PM at Wright Cemetery, Hwy 64, McBurg, TN.

Walt was always helpful if I called or e-mailed. His first reply was on an old yellow lined pad and hand written before he got into computers.

So sorry to hear this news. I have enjoyed reading Mr. Wright's articles. He had a wonderful intellect and a desire to share his observations with the rest of the world.

I have not been on this forum in quite some time. I just found this post on the passing of Mr. Wright.
I had the pleasure of meeting him at a bee club meeting in Elizabeth City, N.C. several years ago.
His love of bees and his understanding of them was only surpassed at his desire to teach others about bees and inspire their passion.
Mr. Wright was truly a gentleman beekeeper and I would love to know just a portion of what he had forgotten about bees.
R.I.P Mr. Walt and thank you for passing on your knowledge.
