Hi Beekeepers! I was wondering if any of you feed corn syrup to your bees I know the commercial guys do feed it.I have also read that it wasn't good for the bees .Anyone using it??

When I do feed I use sugar water, something like 5 quarts of sugar to 4 quarts of water. I then add one spoon of apple cider vinegar per quart of sugar and one spoon of "real" lemon juice per qt. From what I've read this helps bring the sugar water's ph in line with what nature has. Thus keeping the floral of the bee's stomach from being prone to nosema.

Is that what does it? I don't know, my bees are healthy so I keep doing it. Something else I add is vitamins and electrolytes plus made by agri lab. Last spring was the first over wintered bees I had fed this to. They built up and swarmed like mad. Again, I don't know if this is what made these bees so healthy but I'll keep doing it. (warm and fuzzy thing I guess)

Other points I've read; thick sugar water = storage, thin sugar water = comb building, few holes (3) in the jar lid = comb building, numerous holes in the jar lid = storage.
