Post by: akwusmc on April 03, 2016, 07:28:39 PM
All,

I just hived my girls on Friday. I have a pond about 50 yds away from the hive; should I privide an alternate water source closer?

Your pond will do fine, 50 yards is nothing to a bee.

I'll second that.

I think 50 yards is perfect - near enough for convenience, yet just outside of 'pooping' range.

Anything under 1/4 mile is good.

I have 3 water sources in my yard that my bees used but my neighbor across the street put in a fountain and they decided they liked it better and now use it almost exclusively. He likes seeing the "ring of bees" as he calls it around the basin thank goodness but it goes to show they cant be forced and do have minds of their own LOL.

Yes, how your neighbors feel about bees has a lot to do with water sources and the need for them...
