Title: Brood comb fell off frame
Post by: omnimirage on May 04, 2016, 02:53:43 AM
The comb was poorly attached. I wasn't sure what to do, so I placed the comb on top of the lid:

It's Australia here and winter is approaching. The fallen off comb looks like it's mostly had brood in it; it isn't attractive looking. What should I do now? Is it fine to leave it as it is for now, then remove it as spring approaches?

Put it back into the frame - right way up and hold in place with rubber bands - get it back into the hive quick smart or all the brood will be dead if not already

Do I even want them to reattach it? The comb itself is very janky. It's quite thick and double sided. They're still inside the hive, sitting on the mat, not lid.

You have been given good advice.  Put it back in a frame & put it back in the hive.  Hold it in the frame with rubber bands.

There is a lot of valuable brood in that frame. I would do what has been suggested asap

I did it the morning after, and it went well. Used two rubber bands, had to cut off some of the excessive comb to make it fit.

Will be interesting to see how it goes - I would say any brood would have died after being left out of the hive that long

I never left any of the brood outside a hive, I placed it on top of the hive mat. They seem fine.

I'm hoping it'll be easy to remove come spring time, and that they don't put more brood in it.
