Title: Up Date from Michigan: Package install
Post by: billdean on May 12, 2016, 03:08:29 PM
Package #1: they have about 5 frames of comb built after 10 days. I was thinking for awhile this was my best package as they were bring in pollen pretty heavy and then it slowed down while the other hives continued bring it in heavily. I found 2 supersede cells but at this point they are just are just cups. I did find the queen but she did not seemed to be interested in doing anything. She just pretty much stayed in one place and was not hurriedly running around. I did not find any eggs or larvae. There was honey and pollen but nothing capped. Worried about this hive now! Could use everyones advise here.

Package #2 All I can say is WOW. They have built out about 6 frames of comb. There are lots eggs and larvae but nothing caped yet. There is lots of honey and pollen but none of it capped. This package seems to be doing well. I did not see the queen but I did not go all the way into the hive. I did a manual release of this queen 6 days ago.

Package #3 This package had 1 supersede cup in it. They have built out about 5 frames. There are lots of eggs and larvae in this one also. Lots of Honey and pollen but none of it capped. I did not see the queen but I was not really looking for her.

Anyone care to comment I could really use the help especially on package #1

Those cups are normal. However, 10 days later and she ain't laying - I'd be calling the supplier and asking for another one. I would be concern about the age of the work force but it would be good if you could get those girls to raise another queen.

I think it may have been Walt Wright that explained how packages would supersede the queen. Not because she was a bad queen but mainly because they experienced a prolong brood break.

You flow is probably on right now. During the flow my swarms went crazy drawing out comb and filling it. Keep you eye on them.
