I was looking at foundation on dadant and found what they called medium brood foundation for 6 1/4 frame, what does the medium mean? or do they mean medium boxes? lol probly a bad question lol
No bad questions here. Just the ones not asked. Hive boxes come in basically three sizes. Brood, mediums, and supers. Most use meds for honey spinning. Brood size foundation is the big size for brood boxes. The smallest is for supers most people use size foundation wax for making cut comb honey for selling.
Hope this helps.

ok wasnt sure if it had somthing to do with cell size, it was just wierd had they had it worded..... had me a little confused lol thanks

It's the thickness of the sheet. It used to come in Heavy, Medium, Surplus and Thin Surplus from thickest to thinnest. It could also be viewed as how many sheets to a pound, where Heavy is the least and Thin Surplus has a lot of extra sheets (hence the name).

my bad . thought he was asking about sizes not thickness.(the older I get the more I forget) forgot all about thickness. I make most of my own. have not bought any in over 6 years.

When I first start beekeeping my mentor use these terms all the time. The thing is he started keeping bees around 1922. Medium boards actually talk about the thickness of the mid rib of the comb Thank you MB.

It is confusing even for beekeepers... medium brood could be for any size frame, but of course you want to buy the foundation that is cut the right size for your frame, which might be a medium... Life is full of ambiguity...
