Title: Bees honey stores?
Post by: dalewills on May 31, 2016, 02:04:11 AM
Hi guys,

Can anyone tell me the order in which bees consume their stored honey. If I have 2 honey supers that are full going into winter which super would they start to consumer first? Do they work their way up or down?
Many thanks
Dale

They will consume what ever they can get to, that is if it's cold they will eat close to the cluster. The cluster will tend to move upwards as they go.
Do you have a brood box and then 2 honey boxes?? Do you have a mat between boxes etc.

In the spring, they tend to start building comb and filling it at the top of the hive. They work their way down, storing honey above them. In the winter, they reverse the process and eat their way back up.
