I made my first inspection today afer installing my package a week ago. The sugar syrup I had put into the frame feeder was completely gone. I took that out and put in a hive top feeder that held two gallons. How often should I check it? I don't want them running out. Will it hurt to lift the outer cover and look every day? It is very hot here already and I do not want to disturb them any more than necessary.
Thanks in advance for any tips...
I'd check it in a couple of days and see how much they have consumed. Then you can judge how many more days they have. You wont be disturbing them by just lifting the cover.
With the hive top feeder, you should be able to check as often as you
like without disturbing the bees. I have seen small holes drilled the
top cover and the level of top feeder checked like checking the oil in
your car. use a wheat straw for the dip stick and a small cork to plug the hole when you are finished checking.

Do you plan to feed.... like..... forever? Are they not going out gathering anything now?
