Title: Orientation Flights 4 days in a row?
Post by: billdean on June 10, 2016, 07:01:08 PM
Same hive, the last 4 days between 4 and 5:00pm. Does this seem right? How long can this go on? Do others experience this for this long? What does it really mean. I mean does it mean more foragers are going to start helping the hive build up? I know the brood is emerging but there sure have been a hole lot of bee around that have between them time. The hive is 5 weeks old today.

When they get really built up and going good, you can see an orientation flight every day as a regular occurrence for good while.

As long as new bees are hatching and taking over duties in the hive, the older bees will bee able to go out and do their orientation flights. They actually do several orientation flights over several days before they become field bees.
So yes, that is a good indication and normal.
