Title: oils for treating hives
Post by: orin on June 24, 2016, 09:40:42 PM
alright so i refuse to use chemicals on the bees for mites and what not and ive heard of people having good results with essential oils. Does anyone have experience with oils and how do i mix them?

Essential Oils are no less chemicals than any other miticide/pesticide - and many of our modern pesticides are essentially isolates of the chemicals in essential oils, or analogues to them. If you're worried about side effects with modern 'chemicals' - you should be worried about the side effects of putting essential oils in your hives.

The big difference with natural remedies like this is that they're way less targeted than many of the commercial products - which isn't a good thing.

Essential oils will disrupt the ecology of the colony and interfere with the communication of the colony.
