Title: Beetle ID, issue?
Post by: Nugget Shooter on July 24, 2016, 04:51:36 PM
Pretty sure not a SHB as I have never seen one, but have found one or two of these guys in the bottom board when pulling out for detritus inspection, twice found on the crystallized sugar water drippings and guessing just a beetle and not an issue. Only in one hive and being new one should always check in with his mentor(s) when not 100% positive. I looked them up and does not appear to be related....

Kee-rect... here are some stock photos: https://www.google.com/search?q=small+hive+beetle+pictures&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

I had some similar that I wondered the same about. 'Turns out they were feeding on the decaying wood/fungi of old equipment.

Definitely NOT a SHB.  SHB have ping pong antennae and are shaped almost like a hemisphere slightly elongated.  Sort of like a slightly elliptical dome.  No significant markings.  That one is the wrong shape, the wrong color and the wrong antennae.
