Title: mated queen flew off
Post by: chickenwing654 on August 14, 2016, 06:34:23 PM
Hi,
I checked on my hives today.  On one of my hives, I watched the queen fly off of the frame I had in my hands.

Had her about seven weeks now,  She was mated and laying.  I watched her fly off in one direction until I lost sight of her.  Does this mean she is gone now, or is there a chance she will return?

thanks
Tazz

She was back in 2 to 4 minutes if you stood there with the hive open.

I once saw a queen take off 3 times during one inspection. I thought see was gone for good every time she took off.

Same here, I've seen a queen fly toward the bushes/trees 20 yards away. Next hive inspection there she was with her pretty little mark on the thorax.
