Title: Anti-Thieve System + Additional Modules / Feedback From Local Beekeepers
Post by: jakub on August 15, 2016, 04:05:16 PM
Hello Everyone,

This is my first post here. I'm living in Redwood City and together with team from Poland we're building an IoT system that protect bees from thieves. The system has been already tested in more than 500 hives in Poland and won gold medal in World Beekeeping Awards at Apimondia Congress 2015 in Korea (category: innovation in beekeeping).
We're working on second version of our system and would love to open conversation with local beekeepers.
Anyone would be interested to help us?

Best,
Jakub

I'm not local, Australia, but I would love to talk about any anti theft system, as it is becoming more prevalent down here.
Do you have an email address?

Does your abbreviation "IoT" mean The Internet of Things?

CAUTION!
What I got with that link looks like a scam or virus or something.  It offered a free iPhone if I clicked on OK.  It was hard to get rid of and to "kill" it I had to shut down and reboot my iPad.

This is not to say monarchis is at fault, but just be careful

Perhaps I'm being a bit thick here - but how is this anti-theft ?  From the information given, the system reports that a theft is in progress, or has happened.

It neither prevents the theft from occurring, nor does it track each hive in order that the thief be apprehended.

I hope you won't view this post as being unnecessarily negative - it's just that I don't see how this system achieves it's aims.

Folks,

As we all should know from the forum Bi-laws,  we are a commercial-free environment.   This topic is in the grey area and very close to crossing the line.  I know this is a topic that interests a lot of members, so I am not going to delete it.   However,  any discussions need to happen in the forum for all to benefit from.   I have removed all the posts about offline contact.

jakub,  the forum is not a one way resource for you to benefit from our members.  It must remain mutual beneficial for the forum as well.   I trust you will keep the discussion here in this post for all to benefit from.   If not,  it will be removed.

Speaking from experience who has caught a perpetrator in the act of stealing, without the use of a camera to record the act or an eye witness law enforcement doesn't put much energy in finding the thief.  Transmitting signals to WAN in remote locations is very expensive.  If it cost more or a substantial amount of the equipment lost it just meets the cool factor and not the practical application.
