I just completed my 3rd treatment of 25gm of Apigard and on my last treatment I killed about 400 mites on a 2deep hive. The total so far is about 1500 in a 3 week period. My question is, should I keep treating? The hive is looking strong. I plan on doing one OA treatment the end of November when they are broodless, but how much is enough?

I hope you meant 2.5 gram, and not 25 gram. :shocked:
I would do a sugar shake 1 or 2 weeks after the third treatment and then decide.
Sorry Iddee. I meant 25g which is recommended by Randy Oliver of Scientificbeekeeping when temperatures are in the middle to high 90's. Do you recommend to keep treating if mite levels are still too high or wait until November for the Oxalic vaporization
You or Randy better read again. The dosage is 1 to 1.5 gram per deep box. If you need 25 grams, you must have 16 to 25 deep boxes on each hive.
I recommend treating any time, day 1, day 7, and day 21. It gets them all as the uncapped cells emerge during the intervals.

Iddee, just fyi, I just checked Dadant's website because I saw OA in their catalog and what they sell is labeled with Brushy Mountain's name, so I guess Brushy Mountain is selling through its competitors, which I see as a very decent thing for them to do. I wonder how the prices compare. I forgot to check before coming back to the forum. After Brushy paid to get it approved, I'd expect them to cover their costs and turn a profit.
BTW, is there a way to hook up the vaporizer to some kind of AC converter or something? I hate to invest in a vaporizer plus having to deal with a truck battery as well.
Yes, Brushy is the distributor. They may be using anyone below that. I was just pointing out that it is illegal to go to Home Depot and buy it for bee hives.
I would check with the vaporizer maker and learn what amperage the unit requires. Any charger or other source with correct amperage should work.
Some keeps are buying a battery and pulling it on a garden cart r hand wagon. Some are even mounting a small engine and an alternator on the wagon.

I pull my truck up to the hives and put my heavy duty long jumper cables on the battery. I connect/disconnect to the cables with the vaporizer as needed. I just completed my OA for the year. It takes anywhere from 4.5 to 5.5 hours for me to do all my hives.
Maybe I'm missing something here, but I'm referring to Apiguard which comes in a container of 50g gel form which is thymol an organic miticidel. I used half of that(25g) 3 times 7 days apart which was recommended due to the high temperatures in my area. Then I plan on using one treatment of OA in November when they are broodless.
