I purchased a Electric Uncapping knife a few years ago. I think is cost around $100. I used a steam knife prior to that but it made my Honey Room too hot as the boiling water on the heater produced allot of extra heat. Considering it is in the 30c in our summer I preferred the Electric Knife. I found on eBay a Electric Honey Knife from China for $36 so I bought it as a spare in case I was half way through uncapping and my knife went on the blink. Today I had everything ready to extract and the Honey Knife blew the fuse. Because there are no screws or anything to take it apart I have no idea what happened. I had to use the spare worked great of about an hour then it also blew the fuse. Does anybody know how you can repair them?
I have looked at the Beekeeping Supplies and the knife can be purchased from $200 to $40 and they all look the same. On my two there are no Brand names. I read on the Forum that one guy uses his mums Electric Carving knife. Please could somebody tell me which it the best knife to use, one that I can rely on for the next few years. I am 75 and I would like to be able to use it until I fall off the Perch!!!!

i use a electric fishing filat knife. i use it because i believe it handles the wet conditions better. got mine from walmart big box store. but you can find them at most fishing supply store. works great but they will cut into the wood frames usually. try to find one that is long enough to fit across the frame height.

Did they burnt up because they were not under constant use? I have to unplug mine when I am not actually uncapping a frame. If I don't it will get to hot and burn the honey. I would suspect if you didn't uncap a frame for a long time it might get so hot that it burns out the element. I would doubt there is a fuse in the device.
uncapping planes are repairable.
