Title: So That Worked
Post by: Beeboy01 on November 01, 2016, 07:31:29 PM
I just pulled a late honey extraction, not much just 5 gallons that needed to come off the hives before winter. I was concerned about causing robbing so instead of just stacking the wet supers in the yard I opened the hole up in the inner covers, stacked an empty shallow on it and placed the wet supers on top then covered everything with a inner cover and telescoping lid.
The yard has stayed quiet with no robbing and when I checked today the supers had been scrubbed clean of any left over honey and the girls weren't aggressive at all.
Glad it worked, the hives have been through a lot over the last month with Matthew blowing through and having a tree fall on them.

I always return wet frames to the top of the hive this way and have never had a problem.

I was just stacking them out in the bee yard which really would stir them up sometimes. Going to stick with stacking them on the hives from now on.

I have done it before with the inner covers and they just started filling them back in. Don't remember but it it was probably much earlier in the year.
Glad it worked for you.

I have had that happen if I leave them in too long...

I have had that problem also when the wet supers were placed directly on top of the inner covers which is why I tried using an empty shallow as a spacer. Not much of a flow going on right now, getting the hives shrunk down for the winter months.
The bees were starting to do a little robbing while I was pulling the honey and I wanted to play it safe.
