Has anyone ever grown any of these type of strawberries?
Yes, I have a bunch. They're great. They don't send out runners. Very small berries, dryer than the regular ones. Mine seem to love the very well drained site they have at the edge of a very low rock wall. I've had them for almost 10 years.
How do they propagate? I was thinking of putting them in raised beds. My dad loves strawberries in general and so does my 15 month old (as of today) and will they like them if they like normal strawberries? I am going to do two alpine strawberry beds and two regular beds.
The crowns sort of divide and spread as the plants mature. You'll get off shoots. My kids and nieces love them and will strip them clean but they are much smaller and less juicy than the regular variety. If you want to freeze berries or make jam, then I'd do more regular strawberries than alpines. If you want snacking berries and berries for cereal, then the alpines are great. The alpine plants last much longer than the regular berry plants.
Well I am going to do 4 raised beds. Two Alpine to regular. They will mainly be for fresh eating with some frozen berries.
My grandmother used to grow different types of strawberries. I loved to enjoy them
