How much lemongrass oil do you put in a swarm trap?
Take a q tip and smear it on the walls of the box and the entrance?
Just drop in a saturated cotton ball?
Whats yalls best methods?
In answer to your question, YES. I have found that almost anything works unless you use to much LGO
I don't know if I am one to listen to. I had 16 traps out and only caught three swarms. I put a couple drops on each side of a qtip and put it in a zip lock bag and did not refresh. I put the traps out near the begining to middle of march and caught my first two swarms on may 6/7 and one more on my birthday of june 2.
Take it for what it is worth. I am going to do the same this year.
gww
I do pretty much the same.
Take the q tip with LGO on it, smear it around the entrance and seal it in a baggies and drop it in a trap. Icaugh about a dozen swarms last year in my hard. Most were not from my hives.

I put a couple drops on a cotton ball and put the ball inside an unopened prescription cup with no cap. Caught 3 swarms in 3 traps.
I really didn't put a lot of effort into it. Was surprised with the results.
I think my success was more related to the fact I put traps in locations where hives used to be.
My target is four drops of lemongrass essential oil.
2 drops at entrance 2 drops on a frame then a pill bottle with cotton balls I drill 4-5 small holes and rubber band in frame close to entrance. Hung 10 last year and caught 14. some were used more than 1 time caught 2 in same tree in 2 different locations.
The rubber on the eye droppers melts when I use them, so I started just dipping a q tip in the lemongrass oil and dropping it in the hive...

Does anyone add any spearmint oil to their swarm traps?
Only when I was out of lemongrass oil and only had some old HBH around. It did not work for me.
