I read some post that yall said put a tray of oil under the trap..
As i understand the beetles lay eggs and the eggs fall into the ground where they turn into larve..
If you have oil pans under the hives to catch the eggs does this work?
Put a pan right under the hive so dirt doesnt get in it too?
What kind of oil..?

The shb eggs hatch in the hive and the lavae go into the ground to pupate. We use mineral oil, doesn't go rancid as quickly as cooking oils.

If if you put oil tray under the hive, make sure the bees cannot cannot get in it. The first time they start bearding you wil loose a lot of bees.
I use vegetable oil. Low cost compared to mineral. As mentioned it will go bad after a while.

How do you put it under a have where bees cant get into it?
The bees cannot get in the tray if you use a double screen with a bee proof door on the rear of the hive that can be serviced from the rear of the hive. I have been making them for a while, no dead bees no mess.
I have an enclosed compartment under the SBB, it has a hinged door with an old screen door type latch. Bees can't get in. Instead of oil I use a cheap dish washing liquid and water, soapy water will kill insects. It doesn't create the mess you have with the oil. I take the pans out away from hives and dump. Refill with water and some soap replace and ready to go. I do have an advantage over some, where I have hives I have running water. I have part of my bees on a concrete slab, the hives are two to three feet from the edge. I will spray the grass around the concrete with a little diesel, kills the grass and helps with ants and etc.

I built the oil trays into my bottom boards. I put strips of wood around the bottom and stapled window screen on top of it. The oil tray is screwed to a 1 1/2" x 3/4" x 14 3/4" board with a handle added to it. It slides in over the screen. The board seals out the bees from getting in from the back.
It works real well.
