I figured I'd show off some of my handywork for my 500th post. I've been wanting an observation hive for a while. I finally got around to building it(I actually built 2). It's two frames wide, medium frame height, and I built it with boxes that are latched together so it is expandable. Hopefully I will get some bees in it soon.
Looks pretty good. It is the same size (frame wise) as mine.
What is nice is that you can save a very small swarm by putting them in your OH, even in winter.
Enjoy, you will learn a lot from them.

That's nice.
I'd like to try something like that, what are some general guidelines about OH in the house?
Locate in the garage? North side of house? Out of wife's sight?
Love it! So pretty!

Thanks. I think it will definitely be an opportunity to learn. And as a bonus I can get my 'bee fix' during the winter.

In my case, I have a bay window that I will be putting it in. The window is under the front porch and faces northeast. It only gets a couple of hours of direct sunlight early in the morning so it shouldn't get too hot. I made two so I'm not sure where the second one is going yet.
Out of wife's sight? I'm single so I don't have to worry about that.

Thanks. It turned out better than I expected.
