Title: Can it be fixed?
Post by: Bush_84 on March 04, 2017, 07:22:56 PM
Cats got into my workshop and used some of my styrofoam hives as a scratching post. Any options to repair?  Would be nice if I could fill with something. I've used that spray rubber on my roof before. Would probably seal it up well once I've filled it in. If there isn't anything to fill it with then maybe I'll just spray it with the liquid rubber.

That's basically drywall mud isn't it?  If water gets in the stuff would melt away.

How about automotive body filler?
Sticks like crazy, waterproof and sandable.

I think the Bondo would work well.  Would it adhere to styrofoam?  Probably.

I've used Bondo to repair some loose knots a fill cracks on my boxes. It works as well as any wood filler, is water proof, sand-able and won't shrink. If you use it only mix what you will need for the area you are filling.

Cat jerkey is good food.

Kidding, of course.  I love cats.  Glad to see mine aren't the only vandals out there.

Devcon, marine tex, bondo, jb weld, clear liquid epoxy stuff,

Dry wall products will not work if water gets on them.  It wont stick when dry, and will crack and fall off.

Personally, id call it a lesson learned.  Scrap em, OR just spray them with a sealing product like the liquid rubber stuff...  may be able to add several layers after each dries good...

I'm with sniper. Several coats of spray rubber.
My cats liked to sleep on the air bags that I put on my motorcycle seat. They are declawed but some how they put holes in both bags with their hind clawss. Destroyed 2 $100 air bag cushions.

I would suggest a polyurethane glue or "great stuff".  Be careful about spraying something that could dissolve the styro.  Do a test.  If you wanted to you can laminate with 3/16 - 1/4 foam board using the polyurethane glue.  Paint it with latex afterwords if you like.  Where the glue foams out on the edge just use a sanding block with very coarse paper (60-80 grit).  The lamination will make the box better and add almost no weight.

thats why after you apply it you paint it with several caoats of paint. I have used it for several things out side( resin sculptures and bird baths that squriles have scratched up.). once its soaked up the paint its waterproof.

Could you not find a flat quarter inch sheet of styrophone and adheare it together with one of these boards.  Use the right epoxy snd itd fill the gaps and give a fresh piece on the outside...

You take the cat and you smear him real hard against the box to fill in the holes...

I'll consider the bondo option. Seems handy.

the adding of thin sheet of styrofoam seems the best. any good hobby , craft store will have the stuff and a safe to use glue . most of the stuff i saw mentioned will dissolve the foam like a blowtorch.

Waste of a good cat they make good crab bait if you can catch them. Our cat is always being threatened for sharpening claws on lounge.
